![]() We do not condone paparazzi or unconsented photography. Movie posters in foreign languages are not allowed Movie posters of individual characters are not allowed (for those movies where they release a dozen posters, one for each of their major characters) A simple logo reveal does not count as a poster or valid submission in general. Movie posters for popular or franchise films are limited to 2 per movie, total. Movie posters should be hosted on imgur or reddit itself. Movie posters for movies released prior to 1960 are allowed, as a way to shine light on movies that otherwise don’t get much attention. We consider upcoming movie posters to be news, as well as a general appreciation of the subject matter of the subreddit. Movie posters are allowed to be posted for upcoming releases, and for movies made prior to 1960. Some image posts fall into a grey area, so consult Section II.B for further information. Director Y is close to making a deal to direct Star Wars XII is not allowed. Actor X in talks to play Man-Bat in solo film is not allowed. Furthermore, we do not allow “news” of possibilities. Lingo like “in works” or “wheels are turning” or “things are happening” are not a confirmation. Actors or producers can also confirm, but it must be a solid confirmation it’s happening. It should say, “X Studio has confirmed…”. If an article quotes “sources” it will likely be removed. We demand confirmed, factual information. If there is a large, dedicated subreddit, you're better off posting your thoughts over there. No rumours, questions, or specific-discussion threads, etc. Anything that isn't official, hard-line news about large comicbook/franchise movies will be removed. Extraneous Comicbook movie & franchise submissions. Link-posts connected to full movies are prohibited, legal or not. Movies still in festivals, self-made projects, and short films are not permitted topics for the subreddit. r/Movies is about “Movie News and Discussion of Major Motion Pictures.” The defining line between /r/Movies and /r/Filmmakers is whether or not the project has a major distribution deal or heavy celebrity involvement. Headline questions are usually clickbait. Submission titles of link-posts cannot be questions. Do not put a movie review or RottenTomato score into the submission title of a movie that is still in theaters, or still very new. ![]() Some websites have terrible clickbait headlines. We actively encourage users to alter an article's original headline in order for it to be more clear. Any calls to action (“Check this website out!” “Click here!”) are prohibited. ![]() This rule might seem weird, but we’ve found over the years that if you put a quote in the submission title, that’s all the users will focus on. Quotes are not allowed in submission titles. When in doubt, ask yourself “How can I write a title so that a user could find this submission later by searching for it?” We define clickbait as a submission title that demands you to click on it in order to find out what the content is. You must name the movie or actor or subject you want to discuss or submit news about. Submission titles must be deductively clear about their subject matter. Again, in short - we didn’t set out to write a billion rules because we just love rules, we have this insane near endless list because of all of the litigious circumstances that have evolved over the years. It comes from years of interacting with the subreddit daily, engaging with users about what they want, and curating content based on that. This list of rules doesn’t come from us, not entirely. In short - we’re all here to talk about movies because they’re a passion of ours, and we’re moderating simply because we want a clean, fun, civil place to discuss them. Our moderators were all hand-picked from users in our subreddit who were notably present for a long time, participating in discussions, and contributing to the community. r/Movies does things a little differently than most big subs.
