OSA is not correlated to severity of TCS but poses a huge health risk for individuals. OSA is caused by obstruction to the upper airways during sleep despite inspiratory effort which leads to oxygen desaturation and sleep disruption. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is very common in people with TCS due to micrognathia and the narrowing of the airway that may be caused by hypoplasia of the mandible and zygomatic complex, cleft palate, and choanal atresia. There are several health concerns in people with TCS that result from the structural abnormalities of the head and neck. Effects of TCS are not limited to physical complications craniofacial deformities can have a huge impact on psychological well-being and social interactions. People with TCS must endure a multitude of reconstructive surgeries that are rarely fully corrective. These physical malformations also carry with them many related conditions such as airway obstruction, sleep apnea, feeding difficulties, and hearing loss. Babies born with TCS may also have Pierre Robin Sequence (PRS) which is characterized by glossoptosis, a wide U-shaped cleft palate, and micrognathia (Kummer, 2008). Many people with TCS also have both internal and external ear abnormalities which may include microtia and/or atresia, and in many cases results in a bilateral conductive hearing loss. There are also eye abnormalities including palpebral fissures, hypertelorism, and coloboma. ![]() In rare cases people may present with cleft lip and palate. Oral traits that are specific to TCS may include: decreased oral cavity dimension, pharyngeal hypoplasia, and a high arched palate, malocclusion (typically an anterior open bite), severe dysplasia of the temporomandibular joint and tooth abnormalities.Ībout 35% of people with TCS have cleft palate, and an additional 30-40% of people have velopharyngeal insufficiency (Horbelt, 2012). There are many developmental anomalies associated with TCS that are restricted to the head and neck and vary from person to person.įacial abnormalities of TCS include: hypoplasia of the facial bones, particularly the mandible and zygomatic complex, a narrow face with increased anterior facial height, micrognathia, and macrostomia. It can often occur in conjunction with the Pierre Robin Sequence. TSC occurs in 1 out of every 50,000 live births with 40% of children born with TCS having a family member with the syndrome. TCS is distributed equally across genders and races. Today’s guest post on genetic syndromes comes from Amy Locy, who is contributing an informative piece on the Treacher Collins Syndrome (TCS). Our data also indicate a higher frequency of cytogenetic anomalies in PRS patients with associated anomalies, and a potential new link with the 18q22→qter locus. We found a low frequency of 22q11.2 deletion in PRS, suggesting it is less commonly implicated in this malformation. A review of the cytogenetic anomalies identified in this population supports an association between the 4q33-qter, 17q24.3, 2q33.1, and 11q23 chromosomal loci and PRS. Chromosome arrays, performed for 72% of idiopathic PRS with associated anomalies, revealed two cases of 18q22→qter deletion, a region not previously reported in association with PRS. The frequency of 22q11.2 deletion was 1.5%. Stickler syndrome was the most common diagnosis, comprising approximately 11% of all cases, followed by Treacher Collins syndrome (9%). In our cohort 65% of patients had associated anomalies of these, a genetic diagnosis was established in 56%. The case series is complemented by a comprehensive literature review of the nature and frequency of genetic diagnosis in PRS. We performed a retrospective study of 66 patients with PRS and reviewed their genetic testing, diagnoses, and clinical findings. 22q11.2 deletion and Stickler syndrome are cited as the two most common conditions associated with PRS, but their frequencies are debated. Pierre Robin sequence (PRS) is an important craniofacial anomaly that can be seen as an isolated finding or manifestation of multiple syndromes. ![]()

Plants vs Zombies: Battle For Neighborville ![]() ![]() ![]() By habit I would lean back a touch, which brings the whole front half of the board up, which makes it float even easier. ![]() The nose feels quite long, and with the short tail and taper naturally keeps it above the snow. In powder the Harpoon floats like you think it would. It isn’t often that regular blue and green runs feel fun just to turn on, but that is exactly what the Harpoon does. It is probably helped by the taper, but it somehow felt almost as quick as a regular to narrow waist board. With almost no effort, you can guarantee a strong and grippy turn, that is very natural to start, and smooth to exit.Īlthough this board does have a wider waist width, I didn’t feel like swapping edge to edge felt any slower like it can on other wide boards. Whether it is the sidecut, or the Fusion profile, turning is very smooth and easy. If I had to highlight one feature that the Harpoon does best, it is turning. The Vario sidecut is made up of a bunch of different sidecut sizes, which in real life gives plenty of grip in all parts of a turn. Still at my weight (155lbs) it wasn’t hard to move and flex the board around.Įdge hold is where all Never Summer boards do well, and the Harpoon in no exception. The mid flex is stiff enough to give the board a stable feel in chopped up terrain, so I didn’t run into any situations where I felt like I was going to get thrown around if the board didn’t power through the bumps. I wont really comment much on the damp rating, as overall all Never Summer boards feel quite damp as a brand compared to most others. Never Summer give this board a flex rating of 5/10 and a damp rating of 5/10. I had to adjust the amount of effort that I needed to ollie, and while it was quick and easy to get used to, it is nothing like the solid pushback you would get from a camber board. Even with the more pronounced camber profile under your back foot, it is pretty much what you would expect. I never expect to get good pop from any hybrid board (with rocker between your feet), so my expectations are realistic no matter how much carbon or extra things are added into the board to try and help. Leaning slightly back will lift the whole front of the board up, which is a good indication of why it floats well in deep snow. Overall it does have the standard Never Summer feel when you are on the board, which I think is mostly from the feeling of the rocker section trying to push your feet up if your weight isn’t centered. It seems like it has the large rocker section between your feet from the Original profile, a more aggressive camber section under your back foot from the Ripsaw, and a subtle camber section which flattens out on the longer nose. This profile is used on their directional boards, and like the name Fusion suggests, is a mix between a few. I had only ridden one other board with this profile, which was the Never Summer Swift – so I wasn’t super familiar with it. There had been a little bit of fresh snow overnight, so overall conditions were soft in the trees, and quite grippy on groomed runs. I did wonder how a board that is probably going to ride better at a smaller size would go, but it turns out 159 was fine for me. Although Never Summer say that you can ride this board 3-6cm smaller or just your regular size, 159 is on the longer end of boards that I would normally ride. I was riding with positive positive stance angles, and a fairly narrow stance. I am 6 foot tall and weigh 155lbs – or 183cm tall and 70kg. Womens Harpoon – 144cm and 148cm How it Rides The better of the two main sintered bases that are used on Never Summer boards. It urges small groups (D-Groups) of no more than five, including the discipler. Each and every believer is called to intimacy in Christ, and joy comes from discovering how God has made us unique and relates to us through His Spirit, Word and the church in graciously creative ways.Īnother critique I had of GU is that it is not a proponent of one-on-one discipleship. One can’t prescribe how I relate with God in my own unique identity and make that as a model for others. I’m a desk-bound, coffee shop journaller. I am completely comfortable with the type of QT he describes, but my love language (and apparently Gallaty’s) is a pen, journal, Bible and coffee. Right brainers will be comfortable with it, but in my experience, other temperaments will meld their “quiet time” with other approaches – worship, music, nature, scripture, etc. It seems to be prescribing a spirituality for Type A, driven people. While I agree completely in principle, the tone of the chapter (and others) is disturbing to me. “If you are going to be a disciple of Christ, you must have a daily quiet time with God.” In reality, intimacy is a matter of the heart. Legalism is subtle, and sometimes it’s encouraged by prescribing simplistic methodologies to make one intimate with Christ. “Guilt is an excellent motivator but poor sustainer.” Gallatymentions David Platt’s influence on his life, and I had the same feeling while reading Platt’s first book Radical. This type of guilt-ridden approach to leading people into the spiritual disciplines bothers me. “If you say you love God and you love the glory of God, then why are you not talking about Him everywhere you go? If you say you’re passionate about God and you’re thankful for what He has done for you, why are you not sharing that with people? Do your co-workers know about your relationship with the Lord?… Are you frequenting the same place at the same time to build relationships with the same people? You should be. One concern I had throughout the book was a sense of legalism in the approach to the spiritual disciplines listed above. Even so, it reads like it’s condensing and borrowing from other sources, such as Grasping God’s Word by Duvall and Hays. It does offer some helpful and simple ways to teach things such as basic hermeneutics. The book doesn’t chart any new territory. While GU has some great quotes to amplify the above, the person looking for new material or models should look elsewhere.
